What is Oregon SafeNet?

Oregon SafeNet, or 1-800-SAFENET, is an easy to remember, toll-free number to dial for health and social service information in Oregon. It is Oregon’s maternal and child helpline but, in fact, it serves all Oregonians.

Oregon SafeNet is a service of 211info, a nonprofit agency whose mission is “To connect the people of Oregon and Southwest Washington with the community services they need."

A call to Oregon SafeNet can help people learn about options for accessing help anywhere in Oregon. We talk with callers about what’s available in their community for basic needs like food and housing to low cost medical clinics and help finding children’s immunizations.

We can explain government programs such as food stamps, WIC, Oregon Health Plan and other programs that help with women’s healthcare needs. We also help callers find out where to get a flu shot in the fall and where there are meal programs and activities for children in the summer. We are a central number for all types of help.

What happens when someone calls?

Our line is answered by trained Information and Referral Specialists who are knowledgeable about community programs and are skilled at providing appropriate resources. We use a computerized database of information that is accurate and up-to-date. We are also prepared to assist non-English speaking callers with staff that are bilingual along with the use of an interpretation service with access to 150 different languages.

Why should I call?
